Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Sunday 11th February) slammed the payment of millions of pounds of bonuses to Child Support Agency staff.

A Parliamentary Question by the Liberal Democrats has uncovered £25m of bonuses paid to CSA staff over the past 5 years.

LibDem Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland Jo Swinson MP said, "This revelation is yet another slap in the face for the thousands of Scottish families who are having to go without because of the CSA's failure to collect the money they are rightfully owed.

"The CSA has been chaotic and ineffective since its creation. What exactly is being rewarded?

"The Agency's responsibilities must be handed over to the Treasury as soon as possible. The Department of Work and Pensions must ensure that none of the debt owed is written off."

Locally, here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat spokesperson Claire Matthew said, "Dundee LibDem councillors have in recent years dealt with many constituents' problems caused by the CSA's inefficiency. It is disgraceful that £25 million of taxpayer's money has been used to reward ineffectiveness."
