Dundee LibDems welcome new rules to reduce nuisance calls

9 Mar 2006

Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (9th March 2006) welcomed new rules aimed at reducing nuisance phone calls.

The regulator Ofcom is toughening up its approach following many complaints about sales calls that are abandoned before the home owner picks up their phone. At present, there is no way of tracking back the source of the call.

Dundee LibDem City Councillor Fraser Macpherson said, "Residents complain that "silent calls" are commonplace. Too many telesales campaigns rely on these methods and I am pleased that Ofcom has taken action to tackle the issue.

"Under the new rules people should be able to dial 1471 and trace the source of the silent call. The new measures taken by Ofcom will hopefully reduce this annoying practice," concluded Cllr Macpherson.
