Nicol Stephen calls for more powers for the Scottish Parliament

Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Saturday 22nd September) gave their backing to calls by Scottish Liberal Democrat Leader Nicol Stephen MSP for the party to play a leading role in the campaign for more powers for the Scottish Parliament.

Speaking at the Liberal Democrat Federal Conference Mr Stephen said, "The Liberal Democrats are determined to lead the debate for more powers for the Scottish Parliament. All the other parties are moving our way. Only the Liberal Democrats have consistently campaigned for more powers for the Parliament - but not independence.

"We want a stronger Scottish Parliament; a Parliament with revenue raising responsibilities, with the greater powers needed to build the Scottish economy and boost Scottish jobs. We can't go on with a Parliament that just spends money given to it by another government."

Locally, here in Dundee, Liberal Democrat councillor for Strathmartine Ward, Cllr Helen Dick, said, "The Liberal Democrats strongly back more powers for the Scottish Parliament and I am pleased that Nicol Stephen is placing this at the forefront of the Scottish Liberal Democrat agenda."
