Dundee LibDems today (Friday 29th February) backed calls by Liberal Democrat Federal Party Leader, Nick Clegg MP, for the party to be at the forefront of "Scotland's Progressive Future."

Speaking to the Scottish Liberal Democrat Spring Conference in Aviemore, Nick Clegg set his party the task of doubling its tally of Scottish MPs within six years.

He also accused Labour of failing to adapt to devolved politics, and challenged his party to "ride the wave of a second Scottish Enlightenment" "[and] become the beating heart of Scotland's progressive future." In a BBC Scotland interview, Mr Clegg called for the Barnett formula to be scrapped and for more legislative and tax-raising powers for Holyrood.

Dundee's LibDem Council Group Leader, Cllr Fraser Macpherson, said, "Nick Clegg is setting the agenda and making great strides forward for the Liberal Democrats. The Scottish party is in great heart and moving forward with a positive agenda for Scotland."
