News today (Wednesday 21st February) that the £90 million Dundee Schools PPP project is about to reach its construction phase, following the completion of legal and financial agreement in the complex deal, has been warmly welcomed by the Liberal Democrats in the City Council administration.
Six new primary schools, a new Roman Catholic secondary school to replace Lawside Academy & St Saviour's High, and a new build replacement for Grove Academy will be provided through the scheme.
LibDem Finance Convener Cllr Fraser Macpherson said, "This is great news, following on from the highly successful improvements at Forthill Primary School and St John's High School. The City Council administration is keeping its promise to provide improved learning environments across Dundee.
The city council and the Diocese of Dunkeld have agreed that the new denominational primary school (to replace St Columba's and St Margaret's) will be called St Andrew's RC Primary School. The new denominational secondary school (to replace Lawside Academy & St Saviour's High) will be called St Paul's RC Academy.
Following the completion of the deal, the council is issuing revised dates for the PPP project construction programme.
