Dundee Liberal Democrats today (Friday 20th October) criticised the £21 billion cuts recommended by the Conservative Tax Reform Commission as "confused and irresponsible."
The Tory Commission proposes cutting the basic income tax rate, raising the earnings threshold for income tax, cuts in business tax and the abolition of inheritance tax. However, the Tory Shadow Chancellor said he would adopt only some of the ideas but said other changes would mean the overall tax take would not be cut.
Locally, Dundee Liberal Democrat local party secretary Michael Charlton said, "The lack of credibility of Tory tax plans is there for all to see. In Scotland, the Tories have flat-lined and they are simply going nowhere."
