Michael Charlton welcomes virtual conference

Dundee LibDem local party secretary, Michael Charlton, today (Saturday 5th August) welcomed a cross-party initiative aimed to stimulate political debate through an online conference.

The 'virtual' conference, which is especially aimed at engaging young people of all political persuasions, will take as its basis the recent report of the Power Inquiry, a thorough exploration and analysis of the features and failings of British democracy.

"This is an excellent initiative - young people should be encouraged to engage in politics. I really welcome this," said Michael.

LibDem peer Lord Tyler added, "It is alarming that so few young people choose to vote.

"Yet we know that this crucial age group are by no means apathetic. This conference is about finding out how our politics needs to change to engage their interest in the democratic and parliamentary process.

"I urge citizens of all ages and political persuasions to register now to have their say at the Taking Power website."
